7th Time's the Charm

This is a short I wrote about Guild Wars, possibly the best game in existance. Both t and I are obsessed with it, is much fun. Danae Ashkevron is t's monk, Aren Dragonsflame is my elementalist, all of the other characters are fictional, though I'm sure there's some idiot n00b with no imagination named "Shadow Stalker" out there. (if that is your name, no offence^^) I did take a bit of licence with the game, but this happens to actually be based on a real event, specifically, t getting through the mission in one shot and it takeing me 7 tries >.<

enjoy.

Danae Ashkevron hummed to herself and stared up at the blue sky as she waited. This was the last mission in the factions campaign, and one she had only just now passed, thanks to Lady Fate sending her an awesome group. Her friend, the one she was waiting for, wasn’t so lucky.

The monk fingered a new wand, a smile coming to her lips as she examined it. The weapon was the reward she had chosen for finally reaching the end of the campaign.

She looked up as someone cleared his throat nearby. A rather young and mousy assassin shifted nervously where he stood by the rock she was sitting on and tried hard not to stare at the water tattooed glory of the pretty monk. “Are you um, are you looking for a group?”

Danae smiled in a way that would have made any of her friends wince and feel sorry for the poor ‘sin. She leaned forward and smiled at the assassin, mentally noting his name. Shadow Stalker. How pathetic.

“Oh no Shadow,” she said sweetly. “I’ve already passed this little old mission.” She patted the wand at her side. “I’m just waiting for my friend. He’s in there now.”

“Oh…well, ok then. Thanks.” He blushed wandered off to start yelling, “looking for group!” at the top of his lungs, though everyone in the area except for Danae herself was already grouped up. Noob.

Just then, the latest group zoned back into the outpost, shimmering portals opening eight feet above the ground. “Ahhhhhh…umph.” Their monk was the first one to hit the ground, groaning and getting to his feet to stagger out of the way of the other players.

One by one they appeared, taking the eight-foot drop and staggering off to congregate in a corner and talk strategy for the next try. A ranger appeared, but before he could get out of the way a tall elementalist landed on top of him, knocking him back down with a yelp. Danae grinned and hopped off her rock, recognizing her friend, Aren Dragonsflame.

Aren glanced up at the portal, and knowing what was coming, rolled off of the ranger and got to his feet. The ranger was just staggering upright again, when a gigantic warrior in plate armor dropped through the portal. There was a scream, followed by a resounding thump, and people turned to see the tank half embedded in the ground where he had hit. There was no sign of the ranger.

The players shrugged and went back to their discussion. Aren strode over towards Danae, bushing off the 15k Aeromancers armor he was so proud of, even though he was a nuker himself. “Well, that…sucked ass. How the hell did you pass this in one try Dan?”

The she-monk shrugged. “Good group, lucky break. Lady Fate smiles on me.”

“Well she ain’t smilin’ on me today, that’s for sure,” grumbled the ele.’

Danae smiled mischievously. “So have you given up yet? I have better things to do you know.” She winked.

“I bet. Knowing you, I don’t wanna know what you would be getting up to if I didn’t have you roped down here.” Aren shuddered noticeably. “And no, I haven’t given up. You know what they say, 6th time’s the charm! Damn Shiro.”

“7th.” The warrior behind him had finally hefted himself to his feet, and was looking rather regretfully at the dent in the cobblestones, complete with twitching ranger. “7th try.”

“I choose to ignore that.” The elementalist straitened his armor, and strode towards the portal. “All of you pussies ready? No? Well, we’re going anyways.” He waved at Danae over his shoulder. “Toodles!”

As Aren strode through the portal his group vanished back into the mission. The still stunned ranger gave a little moan of “nooooooo, not again…” before he disappeared.

Danae only shook her head at her friend’s antics, and settled down to wait a little longer. “7th time’s the charm huh? We’ll see.”
